myMooMus Bye Bye

March 7th, 2008

I have decided to stop further development of the myMooMus plugin, it has been stagnant for quite a while and there are other plug-ins out there that perform the same function and are more likely to be up-to-date.

The code is open source so if anyone wants to pick it up they are free to do so, please try and think of a better name if you do :)

I would like to thank all those who helped with debugging and feature requests over the years.

I will leave the site up under archive.codingallhours.co.uk for a while, but comments will be switched off to reduce the spam load.

I am hoping to direct some of my energy towards application development which I have not done in a number of years and I plan to use the Coding All Hours as part of the those development.

Path Problem Beta

June 2nd, 2007

This is a call for beta testers. I have made a changed to the myMooMus plugin that I hope corrects the path problem that people have been suffering for a while. When I checked my initial fix there was an error, this may have been a due to me getting confused and uploading an incorrect version at some point as I am sure I had a working version of the fix.

Anyway, as I cannot duplicate the hosting set ups that are experiencing problems please can those who have had this problem download the beta version attached here and let me, with comments on this post it the  plugin now works correctly for you?  If it does that is good and  I will make it an official release, if not I will add the ability to set the path manually in the settings.

myMooMus 2.2 Path Problems

May 29th, 2007

First off, I must apologies for my lack of effort around these parts this is currently due to important things in real life which must take priority.

From comments left there seems to still be a problem with the detection of the image paths. My assumption is that this is down to the way that particular hosts are configured, obviously I can only test against my own hosting setup so creating a solution  can be hit and miss. What I intend to do is to add a manual override for the path in the settings, this would seem the only sensible way to proceed.

I suspect it will be  the first weekend in June before I get a chance to look at this.

PDO

June 23rd, 2006

I am doing some ground work for a project idea I have in mind. I want to base the project on PHP 5.1 and MySql 5, both are now available from my host and I am running MAMP at home so I can easily develop the code.

Why target these? Well they are the way things will go eventually, although uptake still seems to be slow, some of the debate here. For my living I develop systems based on PHP 4.x and MySQL 4.0 and by using the 5’s I can distance my code from that which is I write for my employer. It will also be more interesting for myself as I will be learning something new which I enjoy doing.
A few months ago when I last looked at PHP 5 and MySql 5 I was studying the mysqli commands, however in the last couple of days I discovered that with PHP 5.1 there is a new way of connecting to databases, PDO (PHP Data Object) which provides a single way to connect to different database engines. A better description of what PDO is and isn’t can be found at the PHP wiki.

Having looked at PDO for a few days I have learned a lot about it but I have also generated some confusion for myself but I am sure once I start to use it things will become clearer.

Useful resources for PDO include

I am sure there were another couple of links I found useful but I can’t locate them at the moment I will add them when I do :)

Update of sorts

May 9th, 2006

First my apologies for the lack of progress on version 2.0 of myMooMus, I have been busy with other stuff and fighting colds and things.

A few weeks back I managed to wipe out the SVN system that I had set up at home so I have purchased some SVN hosting for this and other projects. I will look into providing guest access so that the adventurous can download the latest work in progress.

myMooMus 2.0 second beta

March 21st, 2006

I will be doing more work on the beta in the next few days and hope to have a version available testing over the weekend, if you would like to test it out please comment here.

Although it is fairly stable, at this stage please only use on a test blog and not on a live system.

Version 2 in testing

March 1st, 2006

I have sent version 2 of myMooMus out to a few people for beta testing so hopefully it won’t be long before I can realease it. As well as the code I need to redo the instructions again, which I hate doing :( but needs to be done. I also need to magic up another mood theme as at the moment I only have one that I have permission to bundle.

I guess most people will have mood themes that they use on LJ and other systems but I may set up a gallery of mood themes here if there is any interest in desiging themes for the plugin.
